China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), with a long-standing repute in legal education, is widely recognized for its academic strength in legal studies and its growing influence in disciplines such as political science, economics, management, the arts, history, philosophy, education, and select fields of science and engineering. Committed to building a world-class university with globally competitive disciplines, CUPL is strategically located in Beijing and operates two campuses: Haidian and Changping.

Founded in 1952, CUPL is acclaimed as “China’s most prestigious law school” and a prominent center for the humanities and social sciences. Over the past seven decades, the university has nurtured more than 300,000 graduates, many of whom have become leaders in diverse sectors, particularly in law. As a cornerstone of China’s legal education system, CUPL has contributed to nearly every national legislative process and has played a vital role in shaping the country’s legal theory, jurisprudence, and education.

CUPL champions internationalization, fostering extensive global academic collaboration and cultural exchange. Each year, thousands of CUPL faculty and students engage in overseas study and research, while the university hosts hundreds of international scholars. CUPL maintains partnerships with 297 esteemed universities, institutions, and organizations across 58 countries and regions. It actively participates in leading global networks such as the Eurasia-Pacific UNINET, the Law Schools Global League, the China-CEEC Higher Education Institutions Consortium, and the Asian Law Institute. CUPL also initiated the Mainland–Hong Kong–Macao Legal Education Alliance and co-founded three Confucius Institutes in the UK, Romania, and Barbados.

With a student body of 18,442—comprising 9,630 undergraduates, 8,053 postgraduates, and 759 students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and abroad—CUPL offers a vibrant, inclusive, and multicultural learning environment.

The university is home to many of China’s most respected legal scholars, including Professors JIANG Ping, CHEN Guangzhong, and YING Songnian. In 2024, Professor ZHANG Jinfan was awarded the title of “People’s Educator” and honored with a national medal by President Xi Jinping. CUPL’s distinguished faculty includes 718 professors, among them 320 doctoral supervisors and 884 master’s advisors.
