Orientation Meeting for New International Students for the Fall Semester 2024

       In the golden September, autumn is in full bloom, on the morning of  September 6, 2024, School of International Education held an orientation meeting for new international students of 2024 Fall Semester to prepare them for their life and studies in CUPL. More than forty new students from seventeen countries attended this meeting. This meeting is to strengthen the education and management of international students, help them adapt to the campus life as soon as possible, guide them to abide by the rules and regulations, know China and be friendly to China. The meeting was hosted by Deng Yicong, Director of International Cooperation Department.

 

 


At the beginning of the meeting, Deng Yicong delivered a welcome speech, warmly welcomed new international students, and introduced the overview of the College and the semester arrangement. Afterwards, Gao Chenhao from International Cooperation Department explained the course selection process and academic requirements to help new students plan their study and research paths. International student counsellor Liu Mengdi shared information about campus life, encouraging students to actively integrate and participate in fun activities, while stressing campus disciplines. Li Jialu from the Chinese Language Promotion Centre explained the dormitory regulations to ensure that new students understand the details of living in the dormitory and emphasized the importance of dormitory life and studies, the need to abide by the rules, regulations, and mutual respect. Wang Yinuo, Deputy Director of International Students Office, explained the application and management of government scholarships, reminding students to seize the opportunity to apply for financial assistance, expecting award-winning students to be disciplined, to improve their moral and academic standards, and Chinese language proficiency.

Later, IFTKHAR AHMAD, a 2023 PhD candidate in Comparative Law (taught in English) from the School of International Education, and FABARA VERDEZOTO NANCY CAROLINA, a 2021 PhD candidate in International Law, shared their experiences at CUPL. IFTKHAR introduced the school's infrastructure, including modern teaching facilities, abundant learning resources, and convenient campus services, emphasizing efficient utilization for academic excellence. Carolina described her lifestyle in China, highlighting cultural adaptation, campus activities, and tips for a smoother living experience. Their insights offered practical advice and helped new students grasp the academic and living environment in China.

Subsequently, staff and student representatives also answered various questions raised by the new students during the Q&A session to ensure they had a comprehensive understanding of their upcoming study life. At the end of the meeting, the participants took a group photo together to record this important moment.

 

 

 

The meeting offered invaluable information and practical advice to new students, covering course selection, academic requirements, dormitory management, scholarship policies, and campus activities. Detailed explanations and experience sharing helped them understand college regulations and resources, boosting their confidence and adaptability. The successful event, orchestrated by various departments, prepared students well for their academic journey and fostered communication. The School of International Education will continue to plan and implement measures to enhance orientation, laying a solid foundation for students' educational pursuits at CUPL.
